You have spent months sifting through resumes, checked references, conducted countless interviews, and you finally have your new hire. Let the training begin! Here are some tips on the onboarding process:
1. Have a discussion on learning style. Everyone learns differently and you need to tailor you training appropriately.
2. Set clear performance expectations from day one. Ideally, you set solid expectations during the interview process, if not, its not too late. Expectations set in the first month of employment will be remembered and delivered on.
3. Utilize the DORAGI training process (Demonstrate/Observe/Re-Demonstrate/Assign a Task/Seta Goal /Inspect). It works!
4. You will have a two-month honeymoon period with your new hire. Two months of uniformed optimism! Leverage the enthusiasm to accomplish a lot of training.
5. Your new hire will be watching you like a hawk. Be on top of your persona and emotions. Now is a great to time to let your Leadership skills shine.
6. Take the time to reinforce and sell your corporate values. Your values form the basis of everything you do and your new hires must understand this.
7. Culture! Introduce your hire to everyone in the organization. Culture is the entire organization not just one division.
8. The person who interviews and onboards your new hire will be viewed as the leader. If you are transferring managerial duties to another person, do it early. The longer you wait, the more difficult the process will be for your new hire.
